Acrylic and Solid Surface Forming
Controlled Heating, Vacuum and Silicone Membrane Support with Heat Shape Master
Acrylic and solid surface forming is a special thermoforming application used to shape sheet materials that soften at certain temperatures over a mould. This method is preferred for achieving high-quality results in kitchen sinks, bathroom washbasins, bathtub forms, hotel and project-based works, custom countertop solutions and design surfaces.
MakserTeam Heat Shape Master is a special model developed for this application. The lower oven system of the machine allows acrylic and solid surface sheets to be heated in a controlled way. After heating, the material is positioned over the mould on the working table and takes the desired form with the support of vacuum and silicone membrane.
In this application, accurate temperature control, correct mould design and balanced vacuum performance are very important. Acrylic and solid surface materials soften at high temperatures; however, the process must be managed carefully in order to preserve surface quality. For this reason, Heat Shape Master is not only a vacuum press, but also a professional production solution that manages heating and forming in one controlled process.
Due to the need for a lower oven in acrylic and solid surface forming applications, the main MakserTeam solution is the Heat Shape Master model. WP1, WP2 and WP4 models can be used with a silicone membrane for applications such as natural wood veneer pressing and wood bending. However, for acrylic and solid surface forming, Heat Shape Master should be positioned as the main solution.
Where Is Acrylic and Solid Surface Forming Used?
Acrylic and solid surface materials stand out in projects where hygienic surfaces, modern design and special forms are required. These materials soften with heat and can be shaped into different product forms with the right mould system and balanced vacuum support.
Common application areas include:
- Kitchen sinks
- Bathroom washbasins
- Bathtub forms and bathroom equipment
- Bathroom furniture and custom surfaces
- Kitchen countertops and integrated sink forms
- Hotel reception counters and project-based surfaces
- Hospitals, laboratories and hygiene-sensitive areas
- Custom interior design products
- Prototype and sample production
- Curved, rounded or deep-formed surfaces
This application provides manufacturers with greater design freedom, especially in hotel, residential, bathroom, kitchen, retail decoration and custom project production. A flat sheet material can be transformed into a higher value-added product with the right mould system.
Suitable Materials
Different brands and material groups can be used in acrylic and solid surface forming applications. Material selection should be based on the target product form, heat behaviour, surface expectations and mould depth.
Commonly used materials and brands include:
- Acrylic sheet
- Solid surface materials
- Corian
- HI-MACS
- Kerrock
- Staron
- Hanex
- Avonite
- Getacore
- Wilsonart
- Krion
- Varicor
- Plexicor
- Crown Laminates and similar solid surface products
Brand names should be considered as examples of solid surface materials used in the market. Each material may have different heating temperatures, softening behaviour and minimum bending radius. Therefore, the production recipe should be determined according to the material type.
How Does the Application Work?
The acrylic and solid surface forming process starts with the preparation of a mould suitable for the product to be produced. The mould is designed according to the required form, such as a washbasin, kitchen sink, bathtub, curved surface or custom design product.
The acrylic or solid surface sheet is then heated in a controlled way inside the lower oven section of the Heat Shape Master.
When the material reaches the correct temperature, it softens and becomes ready for forming. The heated sheet is positioned over the mould on the working table. The silicone membrane frame and vacuum system are then activated, allowing the material to sit evenly on the mould surface and take its form.
After cooling is completed, the formed part is removed from the mould. The product is then ready for further operations such as trimming, edge finishing, sanding, polishing or assembly.
Acrylic and Solid Surface Forming Process
| Step | Process |
|---|---|
| 1. Mould Preparation | A suitable mould is prepared for the washbasin, sink, bathtub or custom form to be produced. |
| 2. Controlled Heating | The acrylic or solid surface sheet is softened in a controlled way inside the lower oven of the Heat Shape Master. |
| 3. Positioning on the Mould | The heated sheet is carefully transferred onto the mould on the working table. |
| 4. Vacuum and Membrane Support | The silicone membrane and vacuum system allow the material to sit evenly on the mould form. |
| 5. Cooling and Finishing | The formed part is cooled, removed from the mould and prepared for the finishing process. |
Advantages of Heat Shape Master in This Application
Heat Shape Master offers important advantages for acrylic and solid surface forming applications by combining controlled heating, vacuum and silicone membrane support in one production concept.
Main advantages include:
- Special lower oven structure for acrylic and solid surface materials
- More balanced material softening through controlled heating
- Precise forming over the mould with the silicone membrane frame system
- More suitable working area for high moulds and special forms
- Flexible production for washbasins, sinks, bathtubs and project-based custom products
- Adaptability from prototype production to serial production
- Clean surface quality, clear form results and repeatable production
- Possibility to switch between different applications on the same machine
One of the most important differences of Heat Shape Master is that it combines heating and forming processes within the same production logic. This allows manufacturers to achieve a more controlled workflow instead of managing the acrylic or solid surface sheet with a separate oven and a separate press process.
Who Is This Application Suitable For?
Acrylic and solid surface forming is suitable for manufacturers and workshops that produce special forms, hygienic surfaces and project-based design products.
It is especially suitable for:
- Acrylic washbasin and sink manufacturers
- Solid surface countertop and bathroom product manufacturers
- Hotel, hospital and project furniture manufacturers
- Bathroom furniture manufacturers
- Custom surface and interior design product manufacturers
- Workshops producing prototypes and samples
- Manufacturers who want to produce curved or deep-formed products
Suitable MakserTeam Machine
The main MakserTeam solution for this application is the Heat Shape Master model. Thanks to its lower oven structure, acrylic and solid surface sheets can be heated in a controlled way. After heating, the silicone membrane frame and vacuum support allow the material to take the form of the mould.
WP1, WP2 and WP4 models can be evaluated with the addition of a silicone membrane for applications such as natural wood veneer pressing and wood bending. However, on the acrylic and solid surface forming application page, the correct machine positioning should be made through the Heat Shape Master model.
